Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Ajinkya Rahane as their captain for IPL 2025. Venkatesh Iyer has been named vice-captain.
Rahane was bought by the team at his base price of INR 1.5 crore at the IPL mega auction in November last year.
Iyer, after not being retained by KKR, was bought back by the team for INR 23.75 crore, the third most expensive purchase at the auction.
KKR are hosting the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on March 22 by virtue of having won the IPL in 2024. They beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to secure their third IPL title.
Rahane replaced their successful captain from last season, Shreyas Iyer, who was not retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction and is now captain of Punjab Kings.
With KKR announcing Rahane, the only team yet to name a captain is Delhi Capitals (DC). Rishabh Pant had led DC last year but was not retained and will lead his new team Lucknow super Giants in IPL 2025.
