KL Rahul’s Spirited Banter with Kevin Pietersen Captivates Fans After IPL Victory

KL Rahul and Kevin Pietersen Share a Moment of Laughter

In an uplifting display of camaraderie, Delhi Capitals star batter KL Rahul playfully reminded the team’s mentor, Kevin Pietersen, of a past remark he made on social media. This memorable exchange took place after Rahul’s stellar performance helped his team secure a win against the Chennai Super Kings.

Rahul’s Winning Knock

Rahul, who joined Delhi Capitals for a whopping Rs 14 crore, was instrumental in the victory, scoring a vigorous 77 runs off 51 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. His remarkable effort was crucial as Delhi Capitals continued their undefeated streak in the IPL 2025 season.

A Reminder of Past Comments

During their post-match discussion, Rahul brought up Pietersen’s old tweet where he likened Rahul’s batting to watching “paint dry on a wall.”

Laughing, Rahul recounted, “It’s better than watching the paint of the wall dry. Exactly. That was your tweet about me one day.”

Pietersen, slightly bemused at his past comment, expressed his pleasure at seeing Rahul’s transformed approach to batting, “Did I say that? Well, I am glad you’ve changed your game,” he replied.

Adapting to Modern Cricket

Rahul also shared insights into his evolved approach towards playing white-ball cricket. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the modern demands of the game which focuses heavily on scoring through boundaries.

“I think somewhere along the way I lost that fun of hitting boundaries and hitting sixes… But now I have realised I need to go back. Cricket’s changed, and T20 cricket, especially, is only about hitting boundaries,” explained Rahul.

Refreshing Comeback

After a brief hiatus due to paternity leave, Rahul returned with a bang against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and continued his aggressive form in the subsequent games, including the match against CSK.

Rahul reflected on his thought process during the game, “Knowing that the opposition struggled as much as I did in the middle and they couldn’t get over the line and get the victory, so it feels good now. But in the middle, I felt I left 15-20 runs at the back end.”

He concluded, “A little bit of a break really helped me. The minute I went back on, I got one in the middle, hit the ball in the gap and I got going after that.”
