Zeeshan Ansari: SRH’s Rising Star in IPL 2025
Zeeshan Ansari made an unforgettable entrance into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, claiming three vital wickets in his first match for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This remarkable debut against the Delhi Capitals showcased his promising talents in spin bowling.
From U-19 Fame to IPL Limelight
The young leg-spinner, bought at a modest Rs 40 lakh in the mega auction, took the cricketing world by storm by dismissing top players such as Faf Du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk, and KL Rahul. Zeeshan, once a teammate of Rishabh Pant in the under-19 Indian team, demonstrated his skills on a much larger stage, despite having limited experience in Twenty20 cricket.
Previous Performances and Career Highlights
Before his IPL debut, Zeeshan had played primarily in first-class cricket and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, notching up 17 wickets and being a standout performer in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League:
- In his only match for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Zeeshan’s figures were less impressive, conceding 32 runs in four overs without taking a wicket.
- However, he redeemed himself in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, emerging as the top wicket-taker with 24 wickets across 12 matches, helping Meerut Mavericks clinch the title.
Match Review: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Delhi Capitals
The match itself was a rollercoaster, ending in a seven-wicket defeat for SRH despite a strong performance from their bowlers. Mitchell Starc’s five-wicket haul led Delhi Capitals to victory. Starc notably secured the last of his wickets in two consecutive deliveries during the crucial 19th over, complementing the robust start by Delhi’s batsmen.
SRH, despite a valiant 74 off 41 by Aniket Verma and quick runs by Heinrich Klaasen, could only manage 163 runs all out in 18.4 overs. On the flip side, the Capitals efficiently chased down their target in just 16 overs, with significant contributions from Faf Du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
